Hi Folks, I have a '99 Contour SE with a 2.5 liter Duratec and auto transmission. I was getting an EGR insufficent flow(p401) code. We replaced the EGR valve, the vacuum regulator solenoid and the pressure feedback sensor. The code is now a "P1408-EGR Flow out of Self-Test Range" Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'll do just that. I forgot to mention the mileage...92000, in NYC, so with time stuck in traffic it's probably just like 125,000. I'm probably all clogged up! Thanks alot!

Well, I tried to do it the lazy way and order a new throttle body instead of cleaning the old. I ordered part #F6RZ-9E926-AG and found that there are no EGR passages on this throttle body at all. They don't exist on this replacement. The parts guy says that it is indeed the correct part. Is it that the EGR passages are not actually part of the throttle body, but behind it?
I haven't taken it apart yet because I'm trying to know as much as I can before I open it up. This stuff may be easy(or perhaps not) for you guys but I'm an electrician and cars mess with me.

Did you at all read what Golden posted. So you bought an expensive arse TB instead of buying a $5 can of Berrymans to spray the carbon deposits. If you want to blow $, blow it on a new DPFE sensor. People scare the heck out of me. Isn't their a CEGer in you region that can help you?

I hear ya, but since I do wires and I've got outside lights to hang I prefer to concentrate my labor hours on stuff that I actually know what I'm doing with, hence my desire to slap a new one on and be done with it. Now it looks like it would have been less timely to clean the freaking thing but I didn't know I'd just get stuck in more mud. So...are the EGR passages actually cast into the throttle body, or are they "behind it" as Golden stated? In the picture it looks like they're cast in.

No..
They are on the UIM.
Look at the UIM/LIM rebuild in the Duratec Maintenance form(in the FAQ at the top)

And can be cleaned with wire or by blowing air thru the passage.

OK I see it now. Those pictures on Webshot are of the UIM, not the throttle body. Duh!!! This is why I usually don't mess with this stuff...because I don't know what I'm looking at even when I'm looking at it. Countdown to inspection expiration is 18 days... Thank you.
