Many towns in Mississippi were completely leveled, and are no longer in existance. they just weren't the large city like NOLA so it isn't getting the news coverage.
Oh, come on, of *course* it's in the spirit of the joke...and recognizing the lopsidedness of the coverage. My company had offices in the Biloxi/Gulfport area working for the naval shipyards. Everyone is accounted for, as far as I know, but some of our people lost a LOT.
New Orleans is just the bad kid in the classroom who's getting all the attention while the good kids are working quietly to clean up.
