hold on, since when did the mayor of NO run FEMA and NOAA? those are the people responsible for disseminating information related to evacuation orders and planning for natural disasters. that's not the point of this thread. the point of this thread is to bash the mayor for supposedly going against FEMA when a hurricane threat is near. that's not case based on the information i've seen. oh and here you go...

Only after pretty much everyone told him to not let anyone back in.

and it's funny to me how people line up to bash this elected official for mistakes due to an unpredictable storm, but when the highest elected official in the land rushes into a screw up of enormous proportions all of sudden you're anti-american for bashing him.
It is sad that JATO does not see that. Did, the mayor screw up? Yes, but more then his head should roll. Now,call me a racist or whatever. I don't give a damn.
Now I hate America? That is a new one to me.

Only AFTER the feds kept hammering him to do it AND after the newly-elected FEMA chief took to the airwaves. It appears that Nagin is more concerned about his image and any potential "usurpment" of his precious and little-used powers as mayor than getting people to safety and using a smidge of common-sense...

Why? Because it shows an elected official who just so happens to be black as an idiot? Or just because I'm white and decided to comment on the stupitidy of an invidual who just so happened to be black?
Pray tell the reasons this is a "misleading" story and post, since Nagin is right up there with Michael Brown as an abject failure.

This is just about the weakest, most innane bunch of garbage you've managed to belch up in a while, and that's saying something. I've laid into Brown and good-riddance; he's an absolute embarassment to the Bush administration (despite the fact that Joe Lieberman's Senate committee that he headed up did a 42 minute chat session with him and approved him with flying colors), but let's face it: the Federal govt. was handed an absolute mess due to the sheer stupidity and ineptitude that a particular mayor and governor showed towards Mother Nature then when things don't turn around fast enough, they try to pass ALL of the blame up the ladder. True, FEMA needs a lashing of epic proportions due to their response, but the profound LACK of state and local preparations and planning is simply SICK.
You are certainly referring to someone other than me when making the claim that I've bashed anyone for being un-American for nailing FEMA, Brown or Bush...

i feel the same way. there's enough blame to go around, but a lot of people are focusing on this guy like it's mostly his fault. yeah he's probably let his emotions get the best of him a couple times, but his city has been destroyed! his constituents want back into their homes to see whats happened and most of them don't trust FEMA or the red cross because of how they left them all f'd up in the dome/shelters and then added insulst to injury by sending their kids one way and parents the other. yeah good ol' ray. never mind the cluster fck they're already dealing with.

Agreed. His emotions have to be on overdrive right now. The radio interview completly showed the stress he is going through. I would love to see how all the arm-chair mayors on this board would fair in his situation right now.

why are you guys trying so hard to make this a race issue? got something to get off your chest about black people? dont' be shy about it! if you want to make it into a race issue talk about why most of those people who couldn't escape are poor and black and why they didn't get more help when the evacuation orders were issued. that's more of a race issue than your tirade.
the GOV of LA and the mayor of the hardest hit city in mississippi all have the same issues with the handling of this disaster.

because your post says that he's going against the recommendations of FEMA to evacuate when that's not the case.

you're part of the posse that supports not questioning our gov or supporting their case when they've made bad decisions. and even though you're singling out the katrina disaster i'm referring to a disaster much larger than that. and you know what i'm talking about. tough guy.
and i didn't see you saying that bush should be drug out into the street and stoned for the iraq disaster even though it's much worse than anything good ol ray could have done.

Between him and the spineless Governor I would have to say yes, what happened after the disaster was their fault. they have know for how long that this would eventually happen and when it did they have no plan whatsoever.
