OK, car nut legal gurus. A policy is supposed to be a contract. The parties can define terms as part of their agreement. The "federal government" does not define generally terms of private contracts, and exactly who is this "federal government" that some say does define such terms: Congress? The President? The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals? The Department of the Interior? Your local postmaster? Meanwhile, lawsuits/disputes over coverage denials and exceptions are quite common, there has to literally be a new one filed every day in every county nation wide.

About adjusters giving peanuts to settle claims of civilians that don't know what they're doing: This is pretty common too. Meanwhile, it is typically forbidden for attorneys to unsolicitedly contact people known to be in need of legal services in person or by phone, yet adjusters are given free rein to contact such people and take advantage of them while they're not fully aware of their rights and recourse.

Meanwhile, the slogans of "Like a good neighbor", "You're in good hands..." and "Puts you back were you belong" sure sound good, don't they?

And about people being dummies for not knowing what's in their own insurance contract, I'll bet a BUNCH of you on this board understand you have "full coverage" on your car policy. So explain everything that means and includes. Does your UMPD clause cover diminished value? Can you even tell by reading your policy? If you are a pedestrian hit in a crosswalk by another driver, is your PIP coverage primary or secondary? Or did you get medpay instead of PIP? Or neither? So if your coverage pays $17K to fix your car, and you have a $12K DV claim, and the other driver at fault has only $10K PD liability coverage, can your company get $10K of its $17K out of the other driver's $10K, leaving you with zero on your $12K DV claim? If you live in Illinois, have a crash with an unisured driver while you're a passenger in a rental car driven by your sister from California while at a family reunion in Florida, what does your policy pay and what claim deadlines apply? A few of the legal gurus on this board EXPECT you to know these things, as it's your policy, so OF COURSE you know what you got.

Right?

Maybe the attorney general of Mississippi should ask this board what to do, from the experts we have.
