So, I'm pulling my hybrid 3L apart to get a few things powder coated. When I get the timing cover off, I notice the guide opposite the tensioner for the rear (right) head has been rubbing just a bit on the timing wheel for the crank sensor. So when I push on it just a bit, I notice it's moving a bit. Then I notice this
Now, I never did hear any ticking or anything and the guide doesn't have much of a witness mark on it so I'm guessing it just recently broke on me. So I guess I'm wondering....what could cause this. And I know it wasn't that I torqued the bolts too tight b/c I used a torque wrench from my work (calibrated annually). Maybe too high oil pressure? I did notice that in the dead of winter, when I started it, I'd get about 100 PSI but that shouldn't be too much, should it?

Thanks,
Dale

Wow that is nuts. I have no idea what could cause that. When I pulled mine off my 2.5 they were perfect. are those the 3L guides or your old 2.5 guides?

Pete, they're the one's off my 2.5...177K miles originally and about 15K in the 3. Maybe they're just old and need replacing. Sh!t, I'm glad I decided to get the timing cover coated or I'd have never known until something REALLY let loose.

Hope you're the only one that happens too. Hopefully a fluke. Also a fluke you found it.

Did you torque it down to spec? It could have gotten tightend down bit much since it broke right there. Just a guess....

That was my thought. I wans't even gonna pull it apart but my g/f talked me into getting a bunch of stuff coated on it so I figured, why not? What gets me is that I never heard any tell tale sounds or anything. Now I will admit, right before I parked it to pull it, I took it out and did a few final burnouts

Yeah, but it didn't break through the hole, if you look close, the hole is still intact. It broke right next to the hole. And yes, I torqued everything on the whole motor to spec.

I hada similar issue with one of my guides. it was the one all the way to the left. the plastic that the chains run on was all broken. The bottom part wasnt even holding on to anything it was just hanging there. I bought a new one to replace it but I found it weird that it broke.

The 95's didn't break though! Just had issue with providing tension.
