I can't tell where you are on the issue of the church 'changing.' I agree that to some degree a church should evolve. However, what I don't agree with is the church changing to suit society's needs (homosexuality, pologomy, etc). One that was brought to light in my intro religion classes that I never fully thought about was about the denomintions within Christianity. It stated, which seems to be true to a degree, that the only thing same within all the different 'sects' of Christianity is the belief in Jesus.

These are relevant questions and more than a few books have been written on the subject. You could easily argue that the church/christianity has changed dramatically over the years. Catholics and all other christians alike. Probably the reason why there are so many denominations today in the first place. When you don't like the way your church does things anymore, go start your own, Luther. Just in the U.S. you can trace differences in the ways American christians have viewed the significance of Jesus for example. Christians have not always stressed having a personal relationship with Jesus as critically as it is today. To read up a bit on this I recommend the book American Jesus.

So does PETA, the oil companies, Liberial and Conservative movements, etc etc etc etc etc.

Wrong! The Catholic Church CONSTANTLY attempts to influence politicians and push their political agenda. They ABSOLUTELY attempt to affect my life.

If they kept out of our politics, I'd have no problem with them either.
