I don't disagree with the initial thought on why the Catholic faith got its initial growth. However, I think in the last 100-200 years we would have seen some kind of decline in its membership. And I don't believe we have, nor will we. However, Islam is growing and IIRC ~2025 Islame will be the most populous religion on the planet. It is even their doctrine (according to the Quran IIRC) to kill people who do not convert to Islam.
As for the Catholic church changing, why should it? Change to what degree? Should God conform t o our society's lack of morals and standards? I don't think so. We (humans) have done the changing, not God. Should any Christian faith change to suit society? No. IMO, it just so happens that weak people within those faiths are the ones who cry about churches not changing...

First off, on this comment RT. One reason for this dominance, could be due to the Catholics shear will to power in Catholicism's dawn. They conquered and spread their religion through Europe by force, and that act has simply weeded itself down through the centuries, so they remain the largest and most powerful sect of Christianity. This stands out to me as the main reason that Catholicism still exists. The religion does not seem to adapt itself to our society. I think that religion needs to mesh with your current beliefs, and I don't think Catholicism even attempts this very important aspect.
