I've got a couple things to say here that I'd like to hear some opinions on. And don't try and think that I'm trying to put down any religion, I was born and raised Catholic, and now I'm trying to make religious decisions on my own.
First off, on this comment RT. One reason for this dominance, could be due to the Catholics shear will to power in Catholicism's dawn. They conquered and spread their religion through Europe by force, and that act has simply weeded itself down through the centuries, so they remain the largest and most powerful sect of Christianity. This stands out to me as the main reason that Catholicism still exists. The religion does not seem to adapt itself to our society. I think that religion needs to mesh with your current beliefs, and I don't think Catholicism even attempts this very important aspect.
Secondly, I've been reading a little philosophy, and would just like a few opinions on the philosophy of religion. Do you think our faith would exist without original sin? Would we need religious reassurance without an unavoidable cause of lifelong guilt? It seems to me that religion is a very cunning method of dehumanizing man. The cornerstone of religion is original sin, without that sin, what do we have or where would religion be at?
Again, I'm not trying to challenge religious beliefs, I simply want some thoughtful opinions on these honest questions.
