If you don't respect or believe in these things, then don't become a Catholic. I get tired of people saying how outrageous and crazy Catholics are, when Catholic beliefs don't have any significance in their life. There are plenty of religions and sects that I consider to be full of wack jobs, but I don't care, because they have nothing to do with me.
Is it because people feel threatened by Catholicism?

13. Baptised at birth.

Also wondering about the title of this thread.
Christians have been splintering off into their own sects and denominations since day one. Same goes for other faiths. Thats's why I say people shouldn't view all christians as having the same political beliefs either.

I meant shortly after. As opposed to other denominations who choose to baptise at an older age.

i studied religion(s) all the way from elementary school through university (no expert though) and I have found that many Catholics I have met don't know much about their religion. My wife is Catholic, and my parents both were (I was baptized Catholic). They even said that mostly what they learned in Sunday School and confirmation classes was about the traditions basically how to go to church. My wife, and her entire family, don't know very much about the Bible. I'm not saying that this is all Catholics as some of Catholic CEGers are apparently learned scholars of theology but I do know from my experience in Lutheran and Baptist chuches that their congregations know very much about the Bible and its stories.

That is typically true about us. However, I believe some of Vatican IIs decisions were to help with that area (lack of knowledge in the Bible). And it is important, as you know in the Catholic faith, to have a deep understanding where the traditions come from and what they represent. IMO, Catholic Mass has much more deeper roots and tradition than a 'typical' Protestant service that 'just' sings and preaches.
