I tint windows here in Az. (where you actually need it) and Az law here is 35% on front doors and no reg. on rears- and 6" strip, or to the AS1 line- on w/s---
now my personal vehicles- contour 35% hole w/s with double limo 9" visor-20% front doors- double limo rear doors- limo rear window- and my yukon has 35%w/s with limo visor 8" and limo sides and back rears over factory smoked glass. yukon is a 99 and never had ticket- svt is 98 and never ticketed for tint before. ps I have had w/s tinted with 35% on all my veh for last 7 yrs. and no tickets for tint-- hence name DARKER IMAGE--

I used to put 5% and sometimes 20% on all of my cars before. If I got pulled over for something else they'd always tack on the tint tickets. This was back in NY. The back doors and rear window could be painted black for all they cared. But the front doors couldn't be below 35% and on the windshield you could only tint from the top down to the arrows. Just enough for a banner type tint.

One other thing, especially concerning nervous cops. If you get pulled over you better get that window down before the cop comes up to your window. I have had guns pulled on me cause he couldn't see what I was doing in the car. I can't blame them though. I'd be pretty nervous also.

I don't have any on my SVT now cause I'd want it uniform all around. and out here in Calif you can only have it so dark on the front doors.

5%!! how the heck do you see at night??!

i had 15% for awhile, but got pulled over and harassed all the time...

35% now just to be safe.

ya i live in ohio, had 20% and needless to say they made me take it off. now i have 50% and its actually not too bad!!! i would just do legal tint personally! u will run into a dick sooner or later!

God anything past 35% is crazy, that's like driving with sunglasses on at night!

I have 35% on front and 20% on back. Yea you can go to the doc. and say the sun bothers your eyes and affects your vison and you can get a note saying you can get them as tinted.

How do the cops measure the amount of tint to determine if you're within the legal limits? Do they have some sort of tint checking device? Are you required to carry documentation from the shop that did the work as proof or what?

cops wont usually bother you unless they feel like it - you can obviously see if it's too dark.

i got pulled, told the tint was too dark, had to get it stripped, re-tinted, took it to the MVA, they checked the tint and put little "MVA approved tint" statics on each window.

you would think they would have something better to do. :rolleyes:

I have 20% all around except for the front windshield. i've gotten pulled over 4-5 times since I've had it on and the only time I got a ticket was from a state trooper. I had to take the tint off the front two windows and show the car at the local precinct. later that day I went and got them re-tinted.

i believe there's a tint shop in michigan that will re-tint your windows for free if you get a ticket. wish i would've known about that. but the 20% is pretty decent although I would have liked something darker.

I have 33 in the front and 17 in the back been stopped 2x but no tickets. I tell them it's factory from Florida ( which it is) and they seem to think that it's ok. I now get pulled over for everything since I'm now in their puter for pull over anytime. Too many tickets I guess.
