Is it possible to import one of the new Ford Falcons from Australia to the US? I read these cars run in the low 30K price range, approx. what would the shipping cost be? Once the car arrives in the US, would I have emission problems? Does Australia even equip their cars with emission stuff? Is it legal to own and operate a car in the US with the driver operating on the opposite side? Is this at all possible and what sort of total cost would I be looking at to do this? Those cars are so hot and would be worth all the hassle of getting it here. It would be the only one around town Thanx for any info.

people do it all the time. my grandfather had his mbz shipped over to my mom from the motherland almost ten years ago. it cost just over $5k for shipping and conversion. now, that was almost ten years ago of course. the prices could have increased dramatically since then. PLUS, who knows what exactly what would need to be done to the car. typically glass and bumpers. here in CA they have to meet our strict emissions requirements. (have to be modified to meet them). PLUS, iirc it is against the law (FTC?) to buy a brand new car and have it shipped over directly. it has to be "used" so you would need to fly there and drive it for a thousand miles or so. (dont remember the specifics).

right hand drive vehicles are perfectly legal in the us. think usps jeeps, garbage trucks, and more. occassionally you will see an actual british or aussie car on our fine yankee soil. there was a falcon at the fabulous fords forever show this year (a 70s falcon).

but seriously folks, if youre gonna go through all of that trouble, why not just get this !

Don't even bother. The car couldn't hope to meet US specs because no aussie Ford has ever been tested for compliance. You'd have to foot the bill for crash test certification. Not to mention bumpers, headlamps, etc. Then after that, you have EPA and OBD-2, which the Falcon doesn't have. Unless you've got deep pockets, forget about it.

Isn't it 15 years? That 959 would be older than that by now.

There Are Some Strings That Could Be Pulled. But Still As Stated Above Would Not Be Cost Effective. You Could Always Import It As Being For Show Purposes Only Or Race Purposes Only...If You Drove It On The Street Though You Would Be Heavily Fined If "Found Out". Cost To Ship A Vehicle Via Frigate Ship Is All Relative To Weight And Method Of Transport...Those Skylines That MotorX Ships Over Run Around 3900 Dollars To Ship Due To Weight And Being Shipped Inside Of A Con-ex Box. Then You Have Emmisions Compliance Which Is Somewhere Around The 2000 Dollar Mark And Of Course The Luxury/Excise Taxes That Will Be Placed On The Vehicle Put You In The 8000-10,000 Realm. Just Buy An Escort Cosworth And Be Done With It. You Can Find Those In Canada Used For Around The 25k Dollar Range And Mod The Hell Out Of It. What's Even Better Is You Can Drive That Car Home From Canada!!!!

Generally Speaking, If It Can Be Bought In Canada, It Can Be Driven In The U.S. Without A Huge Bank Account.

Why do people Post Messages That Have Every Single Word Capitalized? I've seen this phenomenon several times before on various forums.

Why the hell can you not use proper capitlization? No one cares if it is a habit and we're tired of that excuse. Friggin break it. If a foreigner can learn English you can at least learn to type it correctly.

Don't you know that people ignore your posts because of your crap typing?
