people do it all the time. my grandfather had his mbz shipped over to my mom from the motherland almost ten years ago. it cost just over $5k for shipping and conversion. now, that was almost ten years ago of course. the prices could have increased dramatically since then. PLUS, who knows what exactly what would need to be done to the car. typically glass and bumpers. here in CA they have to meet our strict emissions requirements. (have to be modified to meet them). PLUS, iirc it is against the law (FTC?) to buy a brand new car and have it shipped over directly. it has to be "used" so you would need to fly there and drive it for a thousand miles or so. (dont remember the specifics).
right hand drive vehicles are perfectly legal in the us. think usps jeeps, garbage trucks, and more. occassionally you will see an actual british or aussie car on our fine yankee soil.

there was a falcon at the fabulous fords forever show this year (a 70s falcon).
