This should have been in the dyno/drag forum.

MUST GETS:

more oil. (6-6.5 qts of 5w30) The duratec 2.5V6 suffers from poor oiling and this helps.

a new waterpump. You're likely to have an older variation (being a 98) that is GOING to crumble, crack or shatter, leaving you with no circulation of coolant and an overheated engine. The engine is aluminum and hot aluminum warps bye bye engine. Get a WHITE impellar, or metal impellar pump, instead of the black one you are likely to have (they USUALLY go around 60-70K miles)

LOOK in to getting:
an LSD for your transmission. weak differentials shatter easily, and wheelhop kills it. (wet roads can cause wheel hop, not just aggressive driving.) DON'T DUMP THE CLUTCH AT 3 or 4K!!!!

an ACCUSUMP or MOROSO oil accumulator. This, in turn, helps with the poor oiling.

avoid right hand turns that are long, hard, or high revs (or any combination of the three) as this is where the oiling issues come in to play.. on right hand turns.

Use our SEARCH feature, and also read the stickies at the top of each applicable forum (transaxle, Duratec Performance, Maintenance, etc)
