I just bought a 1998 Contour SVT 4 days ago, I live in East Syracuse NY... I LOVE the svt, its completely stock... but the handling is amazing and I love to feel the power of it, its extremely fun and addictive to drive... (I went to cruise around at 3am last night cuz I missed driving it, yes thats sad.) now... my friend owns a Talon TSI (its 1995-1998, not sure) and its also stock, but does have turbo... do you guys think my contour is faster than that TSI, or can it at least keep up? sorry if its a stupid question, but I'm very curious And one more thing, which upgrades are MUST GET's for the SVT... if someone wouldnt mind listing me a few items I would really appreciate it, which intake to get, etc. I have respect to all of you SVT owners. Thank you -ado

This should have been in the dyno/drag forum.
MUST GETS:
more oil. (6-6.5 qts of 5w30) The duratec 2.5V6 suffers from poor oiling and this helps.
a new waterpump. You're likely to have an older variation (being a 98) that is GOING to crumble, crack or shatter, leaving you with no circulation of coolant and an overheated engine. The engine is aluminum and hot aluminum warps bye bye engine. Get a WHITE impellar, or metal impellar pump, instead of the black one you are likely to have (they USUALLY go around 60-70K miles)
LOOK in to getting: an LSD for your transmission. weak differentials shatter easily, and wheelhop kills it. (wet roads can cause wheel hop, not just aggressive driving.) DON'T DUMP THE CLUTCH AT 3 or 4K!!!!
an ACCUSUMP or MOROSO oil accumulator. This, in turn, helps with the poor oiling.
avoid right hand turns that are long, hard, or high revs (or any combination of the three) as this is where the oiling issues come in to play.. on right hand turns.
Use our SEARCH feature, and also read the stickies at the top of each applicable forum (transaxle, Duratec Performance, Maintenance, etc)
Welcome to CEG.

Completely bone stock they were pretty similar in performance IF you weren't loaded down with extra stuff. Driver weights will play a role in this too. Anyway, for the most part there is no picking a clear winner as they are too close.
If he's raised the boost or had any kind of mods then you're probably gonna loose.

I also noticed that the right hand turns feel a bit rough on the car... so I take them easy
and warmonger, thanks ALOT... I was really curious and my friend pissed me off cuz he was saying that theres no way I'd be even close to his talon, and that I didnt stand a chance...
also, does anyone know if I can order the ST200 Mondeo front bumper anywhere? And would it fit on the SVT? I really like that bumper... I found it on some UK site but I dont think they ship to US

not without modification..
add that to the cost of importing, and its a no-go for all but the most dedicated aesthetiphiles. (new word? lol)
You could also go with graphing the lower half to the upper half of a US spec SVT bumper.. again, expensive, and a new frontier (someone is STARTING this, but not done yet)
