So I had surgery on my right wrist 2+ years ago. I broke and seperated one of the small bones that has to do with being able to hold weight. I had a pin (non-removable) and a bone graft done to put the bone back together. Now fast forward to today... i was coming back into my appt and jumped the back fence like i do atleast 5x a day to get into the appt. We have parking right behind ou back deck, so we all park there. I didn't quite make the jump today... fell flat on the same wrist.

Now, my wrist is swollen up and hurts a lot... i call my insurance company and it turns out i am out of area... being in college and all. So there is only 1 place i can go where i will be covered. I have an appointment tomorrow at 10:10 but i don't know if i should be going to have it looked at immediatly.

My question is this: If my wrist is in fact broken, will it be made any more worse by not getting it looked at till tomorrow? thanks guys!

BTW, i just had to drive my roomates car back onto campus since he needs it... its 5 speed. I cried driving it in and I am now sitting in class. Ugh.

Ice the swelling and you'll be fine. Bones (in the wrist) don't mend overnight. If you're THAT concerned... wrap it in the same position that it was 'set' in when you fsck'd it the first time. Tomorrow, they'll likely do the same thing and refer you elsewhere...

Two car accidents and now your wrist. They say things happen in three's so I think you're all done now.

I hope you have ice on it.

You could go to the ER if you're worried about making it worse (I can't blame you!). They'll at least splint it or something until you can see the Doctor in the morning.

Get the X-rays that the ER takes so the Dr. can see them tomorrow.

I hope it's not broken! Feel better!

Disclaimer - I am not a doctor, but I played college football and have first hand experience of injuries from a broken back to a broken fingernail, and everything in between. Please seek the help of a medical doctor before following any of my advice.

The healing of all injuries, even broken bones, can be quickened if you ice it. If you can manage two sessions in the morning of 20 minutes each(45 minutes in between sessions) and twice at night you will be able to manage the swelling that is probably causing a lot of the discomfort.
In order to definately manage the swelling, take 800mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours all day long. That works out to be 4 tablets of 200mg every four hours. If you don't keep that schedule, you'll allow enough time for the swelling to came back and aggrevate the pain.

If your crap is broken, you're probably going to be babying it enough that you won't do any more damage to it. If you are too careless with your movements, you can definately do more damage. If its not broken, no big deal...unlessyou have ligament damage. Nowadays, I don't go to the doctor for a broken bone unless its a compound fracture and the limb isn't straight. Good luck.

Thanks guys,

I ended up talking to my next door neighbor who is a nursing student and she looked at it real fast and said it didn't look too bad. I don't know if i can handle breaking it again.

i agree with the ice and maybe a sling to keep things from moving anymore tahn they have to.

on another note, if it is broken, you probably won't be driving stick for a while .... and #1944 probably misses NJ in the fall i'd be happy to keep the injectors from clogging up on you.

seriously though, good luck, hopefully you will be fine and the docs will clear you.

Ted,
Once I get the stazi bar and the mirko on, I am coming down to visit you and let you see how it cleaned up. I think you will be impressed.

Too still put my input in on this... I'm an EMT... your best bet is to wrap it however you hurt it in an ACE bandage till you can get to a doctor, and take it easy on it.

Two things to try as well:

Go to the student health services at your school, they might be able to do something.

Call your primary doctor at home, and have him send a referel to the hospital, then insurance will cover it.
