How do you read codes on a 95 ford contour? do i need the special hand held computer for this? Can i buy this from somewhere? where do i hook it up? and where do i get the code listings?

Most, if not all, will pull OBD-II (96 and newer models). I think I read of a post where OBD-I (95 and older models) was done too. If they do it, it is free.
No, they don't provide a print out. You should "hover" behind to read the codes with them and record it.

Before you start pulling out the instrument panel, start by checking two items first. When you turn the key to on, the CEL (yellow) should come on and then go away after a few seconds (when it is cranked). In addition, you may want to check that Fuse No. 11 in the Engine Compartment Electric Distribution Box (next to battery) is not burnt out or missing.
