Hi all,

I looked though the archives and did not see anything specifically to my question.

I cannot open the driver's side window and when I checked inside the door panel I found that the cable is frayed.

Can you replace the cable inside the power window motor without having to replace the entire motor? Or could I even take the motor out and if possible cut off the frayed strand of wire so it will work at least for a while?

I am afraid to take it out without knowing first because the book tells me to roll down the window. If I do this I may not be able to get it back up. Currently I can open the window about 1 inch then it stops. I know I could force it to go down but going up may not happen if I am unable to fix it?

If anyone can give me some advise it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I don't know of anyone that has succeded in replacing the cable by itself. The entire window regulator isn't very expensive on eBay.

you can easily remove the motor and regulator assembly from the door, then seperate the motor from the regulator and replace the regulator. you will need to lower the window about halfway to get access to the 2 bolts holding the glass to the regulator. there are access holes in the door frame for this. explicit instructions are available at some part supplier websites. I think I saw them at autozone.com some time ago.
