Damn, that sure sounds familiar..
A friend of mine had a '90 Mustang GT with a bunch of performance goodies; he was always working on it, so he got a reputation as the neighborhood car guy.
Some ricer kid lived a few houses down. He had an old oil-burning, dented up CRX. It had a cheap unpainted body kit, enormous wing, and he stripped it down to reduce weight. And I mean STRIPPED - he removed the door panels and carpet, back & passenger seats, and glued a piece of sheet metal to cover the hole where he used to have a sunroof.
Because of his weight reduction efforts or whatever, he thought it was really fast. He started coming over and asking about V-TEC and "nawss" and saying how import 4-bangers are better than old-fashioned V8's...all the typical ricer BS.
My friend tried to politely tell the kid to junk it and buy a car that's actually fast because you can't polish a turd, but he wouldn't listen. Finally he says "let me show you what an ACTUAL fast car is like" and takes him for a spin in the Mustang.
He gets out, pale as a ghost, babbling about how it's the fastest car he's ever been, how he can't believe an "old-school" car is that fast without nawss or a turbocharger, maybe V8's aren't all that bad, etc. It was great. It didn't make him get rid of his POS Honda, but I never again heard him brag about how fast it is or how it's so much better than a domestic car.
