on my old RX7 I had a set of ROH rims in a silver painted finish just like E1 rims. I sanded them (ie: lightly scuffed) and then applied several coats of DupliColor wheel & rim paint. Easy to do,but prone to rock chips, mostly on the rear wheels. May need touch ups every once in a while. Powdercoating is probably your best bet for durability and longevity of the colour coating.

Yeah,I only used 1 can of paint to do all 4 wheels and I still had like half a can left afterwards.

Then I painted other stuff.

I used Duplicolor wheel paint. Sanded the stock finish to get it rough, painted a few coats of color, then a few coats of clear. Easy job, and lasts pretty well. Never chipped.

Only problem with powder coating is you will need something to bake it on with. If you have a spare 220v outlet you can hook up a bum oven to then your all set, most people don't. Typically people by these heat lamps to do the job. Those lamps cost over $100 each and to do a good job you will need two. I have a powder coating kit and have done small stuff, but I was able to put the parts in a toaster oven that I don't use anymore. I actually bought an full sized oven too, but when we got central air installed that used up my last 220v slot so... yea. I haven't forked out the cash for those lamps, but it may be in the works especailly if I can pay them off by doing jobs like this for people that don't have the means to do it themselves.

Just throwing out my opinion...

I always like the "blacked out" look, but the rims can ruin it on some cars. I'd suggest using a rim with a chrome lip. I think it will accent the car perfectly. There is a such thing as TOO black. Find some examples if it sounds worth considering or have someone photochop em.

I agree with the too much black, but this Duplicolor wheelpaint is a graphite grey, which is the colour I painted the botoom of my car. It is an awesome colour to go with silver, black, green or blue.Hell, even looks good with red, white and many others.
