here's everything in a nutshell after a debate i had.

If you swap the SVT motor out of an SVT is it still a true SVT, i say it's still SVT but not full, It's like getting a gender change, although you have different equipment your still the same person.

Debate.

I would say it depends on what it is swapped with. You could make the same argument for replacing any SVT specific item... including body-kits, suspension, wheels, exhaust, interior parts... anything.

In fact, I think many of things are more "SVT" than the engine.

well it was becasue the engine if often referred to as the heart of the car.

but the only thing you can really swap out is the bottom end, right? if that is the case my 95 has the same bottom end as an SVT and does that make it an SVT? Nope. It is the various other things that make an SVT an SVT....mostly the certificate and what not.

I will say yes. I know we've debated this a few times on NLOC about pure drag trucks that don't really have any more true Lightning parts on it I don't think any CSVT have even approached that level yet on whether or not it is still a true 'SVT'. Once you get to the point where the car is gutted and every piece on the car minus the shell has been swapped out, then I think the question may arise.

For instance, it's been debated a few times on Johnny Lightning truck still a 'Lightning' backhalved, choppped, etc etc etc etc. IMO, it's only a Lightning because the VIN says so.

And the extra 30 horses, but who's counting?

you can certainly swap the entire engine out for a 3L...

The extra 30 ponies comes from stuff like the intake, pistons, exhaust and what not...the stuff that SVT put into the car. Duh, huh? And I thought that the intake manifold from the 3L wouldn't fit under our hoods.

and extrude honing (upper half...) and larger TB, and bigger injectors, and the list goes on.

to be specific:

this is lifted from the 99 model year owners guide supplement:

-larger front brakes, 10.94" vented front rotors
-bosch 4 channel, 4 sensor antilock braking system
-enhanced suspension, 19 mm front stabilizer and 18 mm rear stabilzer
-unique front and rear bumper covers
-round foglamps
-unique mesh grills
-unique rear valance panel, rocker sill extentions, mesh grill and stainless muffler tips
-unique wheels
-special seats front and rear with extra bolstering
-unique texture door trim inserts
-svt gauges

engine stuff:
-hp=195 for 98 and 200 @6700rpm for 99/00
-torque=167 lb/ft @5625
-redline=6750 soft and 7000 hard
-10.0:1 compression ratio, increased in 2k to i don't remember what
-throttle body=60mm
-70 mm mass air sensor
-large conical airfilter
-heavy duty radiator
-extrude honed uim and heads
-32 mm lim
-special cams and pistons
-18 lbs flywheel
-19 lbs/hr fuel injectors
-block mounted water to oil oil cooler
-quasi dual exhaust
-special clutch

if you just swap in a 3.0 then yes it is still a svt. if you rip it apart so that nothing original remains and replace it with something else(think saleen vs regular mustang) then it is something else based on a csvt.

IMO,it's only an SVT if it left the factory as an SVT. You can build an SVT clone, but it's not a real SVT,it's a fake.

The registration and the build certificate make it an SVT. And so does the rarity.

That's like saying I can take all the SVT specific pieces and put them on my '95 Contour and call it a '95 Contour SVT. Well that's not gonna work because I'll look like an idiot because such a car does not exist. It may have all the parts, but it's not the right car.

Kinda like a Shelby Cobra replica. Looks like the real thing, but it isn't the REAL thing.
