Somewhat unrelated but.. I sat in a CLK55 AMG at the most recent Philly car show. The use of plastics in an AMG Mercedes costing 70K was appalling. They had metal looking plastic for the door handles. It was really pathetic.

i think its a sweet machine. i would drive it around as a daily driver. so what if it is a wagon that is faster then most cars on the road. it can hold 8 people and carry tons of stuff. how many cars can you actually say that about?

plus use of high-grade plastics is not appalling. money was spent in the most needed areas; not the cabin not to mention it is a beautiful car inside and out. mercedes does not skimp on quality inside or out, hence the price.

It might "hold" 8 people, but I guarantee it doesn't "seat" 8 people. I personally think wagons are pretty silly looking, especially in sports car form.

No way! Wagons are tight with me if they are done right. At least as good as sedans. I would probably get a Magnum SRT-8 instead.

I have to agree lol - I'd never buy any station wagon, just because... it's a friggin wagon! I'd much rather have a sedan.

Damn right!

A dude back in my hometown has a mid 80s LTD wagon. Only things that will throw ya off that it's not just a old ghetto ride is the shiny monochrome black paint and the cowl hood.

My brother rode in the thing and was scared to death. The dude said he took it to Cordova (the nearest drag strip) and it was running 12's on street tires. Apparantly has some radically built 351 hooked to a 5 speed.

Anyway... I like wagons. I've owned 2, one being a sorta factory sleeper. 85 Celebrity CL (not the "Eurosport" with blacked out trim) with the one year only 2.8L MPFI "HO" V6. The 85 fuel injected 2.8 had the block/pistons/etc out of the carbed 2.8 HO, but wasn't offically an HO. In 86 they replaced it with a different 2.8 that didn't have the HO parts (also had coil packs, differnent intake, exhaust route, etc). Well, in a test run with me holding a stopwatch, it was in the 8 second range 0-60. Not bad IMO, compared to other mid-80s cars.

In a perfect world, that wagon would come in a manual and I'd have a spare $90K.
