Ok before everyone gets their panties in a knot I have done a lot of searching and even more reading. The problem...Ive got the symptoms of a fried IMRC (it opens once or twice then thats it) i have symptoms of needing new plugs and wires (catalist deficiency bank 1 and slight sputter at idle) I have a fuel gauge that is on the fritz it thinks that it has 3/8 of a tank when the tank is bone dry (yes obviously i ran out of gas) the gauge works but it is not accurate. ok that is the basics. now the real confusion. the symptoms of the IMRC go away completely when i am at (complete guess) less than 1/3 of a tank.

my question... could the fuel pump and or the bad plugs/wires cause the IMRC to act up? the IMRC will still run fine even when it is blazing hot outside and im driving the crap out the engine as long as i have less than 1/3 or so a tank of fuel.

Help me please!

anybody

Could be fuel pump. Try changing the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, cleaning the IAC, MAF. What were the exact CEL codes for the cat defi Bank 1, and slight sputter at idle (assuming that is what Autozone told you)? Scan it and post. It could be O2 sensor too but without the CEL codes, it would be hard to know.

Edit. Duratec Maintenance How tos.

No it is not the O2. I ran a PO420. not a censor. i did some research about that and found that bad plugs can cause the code to throw.
