Before the usual discussion of Zaino vs. Meguiars starts, I'll add my $.02 to the initial question.

I would try to get as many coats as possible in before the snow and road salt begins to be seen. I agree with SQ, the more you get on, the better protection you will get from the elements. The polish kind of acts like the teflon coating on a frying pan, not allowing contaminents to stick to your paint.

As of right now I am planning on making the road trip in May. I have 7 coats on right now, I need to do the Z-1 again for coat #8, then it won't get another coat till Spring. I will get a good wash in sometime in late February/ early March and then start adding to the shine.

Even better, save a coat to do at SZ and we'll see te immediate difference too!
