it has been gone over a few time in the zetec forums, some have reported valve damage while others have not when the timing belt has broken, the majority of people feel the it is a non-interference engine


also i thought the duratec used chains because timing is more presice, and that is what you would need for a high reving V6




I thought the Duratec had chains for longevity. Chains SHOULD (not always the case though) require less or no maintenance over the life of the engine. That was one of Fords selling points when the Duratec first came out. It's also why Dodge claims they put a chain instead of a belt on their 4.7 V8. In reality though I think I like a belt with a service interval better.
