i was consitering doing a 3.0 conversion but i realized i don't have the time nor the money to buy a new engine block for my car. i was woundering if anyone has heard of a stroker kit for the 2.5 litre to increase the displacement to 3.0.

Like a stroker kit would be cheaper then picking up a used 3L engine for $500-600.

The SHO sho had a strocker kit in their catalog to bring a 3.0 up to a 3.5. As far as I know, nobody ever built an engine using their stroker kit.

I also can hardly see how you could make a crank, either from billit or by welding and grinding an existing crank, and then have custom pistons made, and come out cheaper than buying a 3.0 to start with.

not to mention it will be less durable than dropping in a 3.0. if you are going to increase a 2.5 to a 3.0, you are going to have to shave quite a bit....which will decrease the durabilty/cooling integrity of the block. Not the best idea with the 2.5 considering the cooling issues we already have.
unless you can get someone to build you custom metal head gaskets, crank...pistons
I dunno, has anyone heard of anyone stroking a 2.5 duratec?

I believe there was a Cougar guy who did something to get it out to 2.7L, something with Surpa pistons? I don't remember the specifics.

Well, if there is enough material on the stock crank, you can always have it offset-ground which would give you a longer stroke. That would necesitate new pistons with a higher pin placement to lower the piston at the top of the stroke. But, custom = $$$.

Just pick up a used 3.0, no need to reinvent the wheel.

He used Darton sleeves for the Toyota Supra (unsure of year) and bored his 2.5L out to 2.8L and then supercharged it. He was the guy who bought the "Cougar Eliminator" concept car ... he frequents the NECO boards occasionally.

Innovative, but pointless.

The 3.0L engines are so cheap, that it's really a no brainer.
