yup. could very well be the TPS. if theres a CEL, it'll say "throttle position sensor out of range" on the code reader.

TPS= the problem. I just fixed my buddies the other day!!

Thanks for the post, but his symptoms include RISING revs, not hanging at one spot. If a TB could OPEN more because it is dirty, then that is a new one to me.

With no load, (like when he steps on the clutch) if the throttle is not closing the rpms will rise. My guess is that it rises to a point and stops. It is a quick thing to check and clean before throwing money at it.

Another good guess but, if the throttle plate was, indeed, sticking then the car would accelerate at an easily detectable (and seemingly intentional) rate of speed. To have the plate sticking open enough to rev to 4K (or even 5K as this user is stating) would be the same as pressing the gas pedal until your car accelerated to 5K (Depending on the gear, that would be some rather moderate speeds, there.)

I am not saying that TH can't make the car accelerate (as it has and does in mine every once in a while) but it isn't anything that would make you freak out... We're talking about 1 or maybe 2mph in 3rd or higher.. perhaps 2-3 in 1st or second gear. TH is not directly controlling the throttle plate, or acceleration, just simply "affecting" your idle.

My svt is also doing the exact same thing. While driving, hold the clutch to the floor and the rpms rise for about 5 secs, then slowly fall. It makes it more difficult to stop as the engine is still revving while you are braking, and the revs will hang at about 1500 until the car stops completely! I have already performed the TH fix, replaced the IAC, and have cleaned the throttle body. I am at a loss. I will search for a vacuum leak..but other than that, I have no clue what to do. With gas prices like they are, this is driving me crazy. PLEASE HELP!!!

Was waiting for you to check if there were any vacuum leaks. If there isn't, try the MAF cleaning. In addition, try the clamp on the hose method (middle of the rubber hose between the IAC and accordian tube, tighten until no moose or throttle hang) for the throttle hang problem also.

BTW, any CELs. Might want to scan and post.
