I couldn't agree more with you on this point.

As opposed to a PM I invite the Admin of the site join this post and comment on the position of the site and it's policies. Explaining why ppl can't post meaningful inforamtion for the good of all in lieu of a single member doing it for profit.
Rara, Lance.. your input is greatly apprciated.

So, be prepared to start using sites like yahoo if you still want to download.
Do you really think that is going to stop illegal file sharing? It never has before. Look at napster. Did it die when they were shut down? No it got bigger. There are plenty of other ways to sahre music without the mainstream programs. IRC, FTP, BT to name a few.
OK, no, I dont think it will stop it completely. Will it knock out many of the middle to light users? Good chance.
DL sites will definitely stick around, but you said it yourself, they'll come back as paysites just like Napster did.

Touredon,
I think you may be missing a point, here.
Todras and the selling of his CDs has been the (very) recent topic of conversation within the mod forum, and the legality of the issue was brought up by one of us. We have discussed the very stance you are taking and our final decision is just as we have said:
(regardless of past approval, advertisement, etc) Illegal means of aquisition to copyrighted material will not be endorsed on this forum.:
This should go for all avenues..

Please, spell it out for me as I still can't seem to understand which point it is I am missing.
You claim not to support any 'illegal means of acquisition' of copyrighted material; yet the classified ads, and his signature remain?
Is it not illegal to copy proprietary material? Is it not an even darker legal area to sell same material?
So, in light of these remaining items, can I not assume that I can do the same?
Maybe I'll start selling the CD's too... place my ad in the classifieds and modify my signature to inform the good ppl here that I too can make a profit from copyrighted materials?
Maybe these questions are best posed to Mr. Dennis E. Ross of the Ford Legal Department. I'm sure he could answer these questions for me and the management of this site more succinctly.
To put it bluntly, put up or shut up.
It's either one way or the other, not a game of who likes who the most; which is what we're really talking about here isn't it?
I would again like to invite the commentary of the owner of the site. I would like to hear from the site owner what the position of the site is and what plans are in place to ensure this is resolved and further violations are not tolerated.
A good idea here would be some sort of acceptable use policy; A blanket statement from the owner detailing what is and is not acceptable and to have it implemented fairly and equally for all members and admins, not allowing a select few to escape these policies.
With all due respect to Lance and others who make this site happen (congrats to you on a fantastically successful site) I understand the difficultly in maintaining and funding a venture such as this; But with success comes responsibility. It is job of the site owner and his appointed admins to ensure fair and equal treatment for all of its members. I'm just trying to point out an area where this has not happened, and have it addressed one way or the other.
You can't warn ppl about the legalities of their content, yet allow the same action to take place openly with the apparent support of management.
This is a great site! There are mountains of great information here. An open and public technical knowledgebase unsurpassed on the engineering of the Duratec engine and mtx-75 transaxle. A good example of proof is one gentleman with over 100K into his Duratec powered machine. Does he go to the closest performance shop for all if his technical advise? No. He comes here to a gathering of ppl with cars worth far less than a few of the body panels on his Noble. What does that tell ya?
Thank you to the admins and group members for taking the time to read my concerns. I would love to hear you thoughts. This IS a great site, not just for its info on Ford product, but for the camaraderie of its members. I would be horrible to see this tainted by the preferential treatment of a select few.
I eagerly await comment from Lance and other senior admins on the issue, and what if anything will be done to ensure this topic is not at issue again.
Respectfully,
John McKinlay

Why the hard-on against Todd? You've asked Ray the same question a few times over, and he's answered it accordingly. CEG administration is actively dealing with the issue, and from the sounds of it, Todd won't be able to offer the discs anymore. Now, I'm not sure if you're expecting one of the admins to stop by and entertain this thread, but I sure wouldn't count on it. In fact, I'll do it for them. Originally posted by Rara:

touredon, telling moderators to "put up or shut up" and then threatening to go to Ford's legal department will not earn you respect among the admins and certainly not a response. Ray has already stated that the issue is being dealt with among the moderators, how much clearer does it have to get with you?
(FWIW - off topic .. it doesn't say in the classifieds now, but years ago I recall Todd writing that he did not do them for profit. The money covered the packaging, cost to ship, CDs, jewel cases, and cost of his time to burn. Not that it matters anymore.)

My point exactly. I'm still very happy with the CD I purchased, which has saved my butt many times. It's the best $8 I've ever spent... well, except for that lap dance in Montreal.

I use the $5 per month service here at work. I listen to it all day. You customize the songs that you want to hear, though it plays like a radio station. That is, you can't select the specific song that you want. You can, however, skip to the next song if you don't like the one that is playing.
I have never used it for buying songs or burning CD's.

You're right a copywrite is a copywrite, you're defending something that is a part of why this site was created, a service manual on CD, which benifits just about every member on this site...to stealing music something that really doesnt belong on a site about cars.
hey man, Todd and I have had our run ins, but I will admit I own a CD, if you need my name or anything because you want to ave me do life +20 shoot me a PM I'll give you any info you need...
Here you keep threatning legal action...

Agreed. There is enough crap that goes on in this site, we don't need people around to point it out. The Ford CDs are a great thing, and I don't see the need why you have to ruin them for everyone. You have never broken the law? Never gone 1 mph over the speed limit? Never downloaded a song? Never looked at porn underage? Please don't tell others to be perfect and follow the law 100% all the time... that is why we have cops and lawyers.
