I think you may be missing a point, here.
Todras and the selling of his CDs has been the (very) recent topic of conversation within the mod forum, and the legality of the issue was brought up by one of us. We have discussed the very stance you are taking and our final decision is just as we have said:
(regardless of past approval, advertisement, etc) Illegal means of aquisition to copyrighted material will not be endorsed on this forum.:
This should go for all avenues..
Ray
Please, spell it out for me as I still can't seem to understand which point it is I am missing.
You claim not to support any 'illegal means of acquisition' of copyrighted material; yet the classified ads, and his signature remain?
Is it not illegal to copy proprietary material? Is it not an even darker legal area to sell same material?
So, in light of these remaining items, can I not assume that I can do the same?
Maybe I'll start selling the CD's too... place my ad in the classifieds and modify my signature to inform the good ppl here that I too can make a profit from copyrighted materials?
Maybe these questions are best posed to Mr. Dennis E. Ross of the Ford Legal Department. I'm sure he could answer these questions for me and the management of this site more succinctly.
To put it bluntly, put up or shut up.
It's either one way or the other, not a game of who likes who the most; which is what we're really talking about here isn't it?
I would again like to invite the commentary of the owner of the site. I would like to hear from the site owner what the position of the site is and what plans are in place to ensure this is resolved and further violations are not tolerated.
A good idea here would be some sort of acceptable use policy; A blanket statement from the owner detailing what is and is not acceptable and to have it implemented fairly and equally for all members and admins, not allowing a select few to escape these policies.
With all due respect to Lance and others who make this site happen (congrats to you on a fantastically successful site) I understand the difficultly in maintaining and funding a venture such as this; But with success comes responsibility. It is job of the site owner and his appointed admins to ensure fair and equal treatment for all of its members. I'm just trying to point out an area where this has not happened, and have it addressed one way or the other.
You can't warn ppl about the legalities of their content, yet allow the same action to take place openly with the apparent support of management.
This is a great site! There are mountains of great information here. An open and public technical knowledgebase unsurpassed on the engineering of the Duratec engine and mtx-75 transaxle. A good example of proof is one gentleman with over 100K into his Duratec powered machine. Does he go to the closest performance shop for all if his technical advise? No. He comes here to a gathering of ppl with cars worth far less than a few of the body panels on his Noble. What does that tell ya?
Thank you to the admins and group members for taking the time to read my concerns. I would love to hear you thoughts. This IS a great site, not just for its info on Ford product, but for the camaraderie of its members. I would be horrible to see this tainted by the preferential treatment of a select few.
I eagerly await comment from Lance and other senior admins on the issue, and what if anything will be done to ensure this topic is not at issue again.
Respectfully,
John McKinlay
