my mom wants to buy a diesel and make her own biodiesel, The most costly ingredient is methanol you need about 5 gallons to make about 40 gallons of biodiesel. I assume methanol, racers use in high hp applications is whats used and prob. the cheapest, but i cant seem to find anything online about the ave. costs. I use nitro for my rc cars and on the side of the bottle it says 99% methanol and thats 20$ per gallon so im sure its got to be cheaper than that. But does any one know the cost? and weres the cheapest/best place to get it? dragstrips, racetracks? hotrod shops?
thanks guys.

Whoa! Isn't methanol by itself highly flammable? Maybe she should consider a Taurus bifuel E85 engine car.

Methanol is used on a limited basis to fuel internal combustion engines, mainly by virtue of the fact that it is not nearly as flammable as gasoline.

Some say its as cheap as .40c a gallon, it all depends on how much the methanol is. Wich is what i cant seem to find.

From the article.
"A methanol flame is almost colorless. Care should be exercised around burning methanol to avoid burning oneself on the almost invisible fire."

And she was thinking of doing the blend herself. Not buying a methanol blend at the pump.

changing your own oil is risky to you!!!
+ It was my idea in the first place. Shes such a tree hugger, i though she might like the idea, and now that gas is more expensive than diamonds
