You seem to be confused. The earth-centric theory of the universe was essentially a religious and a Christian notion - not a scientific one. Unlike evolution, there was never been any scientific data to support the earth-centric theory.

As you know, the Catholics persisted in this belief, long after it was disproved by science - to the extent of persecuting any scientist or anyone else who proclaimed that the earth was NOT the center of the universe.
