Is this your first event? I'm assuming so since you are asking the question. Make sure you flush and bleed your brakes, and that you have considerable pad left (more than 75%). Depending upon the track you may use them up quickly or not at all. Make sure your tires are in good condition. I'd start your tire pressures around 36-38 PSI (assuming you have street tires). Make sure your battery is tied down well. I'd run 6.5-7 qts of oil. I ran three events with just 6 qts. w/ no problems, but I feel better about having a little more oil. Also, check your steering and make sure everything is tight. You may want to flush your cooling system and fill with new coolant. Otherwise run what you brung! Listen to your instructor - they are super good to have in your car. Have fun, and most importantly, be safe.
To answer the original question, depending upon the track you will find out that the Contour gets around very well. It's a great feeling passing someone with a car that cost twice as much as yours!
