...too much armchair politics and name-calling goin' on in this thread ...IMO of course. Fact of the matter: New Orleans is in a dire state. They're shooting eachother, so it's obvious that someone's gotta step in. Stop blaming, stop trying to point the finger, JUST START HELPING!!!

EDIT: Let me add that Bush does help out where he can. He's been there for us in Florida before. We're no strangers to hurricanes.
News flash, this isn't a state disaster, this is a NATIONAL disaster. Don't believe me, go look at the price of gas.
I said it on the other thread, If this had been a terrorist disaster things would have been handled a lot differently!
Michael Moore is a sensationalist no doubt about it, but I agree with what he is saying.
wow you actually agree with that pile of a story.....i can't believe some people...IT WAS A NATIONAL DISASTER,that was not handled properly by the LOCAL government get a clue.....quit trying to blame everything on bush, the election has been over get over it...maybe you should go watch farenheit 911 again...

Being a native of Houston I am very proud to say that I am from there. They welcomed Louisiana folks with open arms. Now they have also opened up the George R. Brown Conv. Center and the exhibition center to make more room. I just wish I was still living back home because I would love to be down there helping out with whatever. -tropictour

WTF do the levies have to do with the war in iraq?? it's a STATE issue.
What, the government should fix every states bad roads too??
And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!
read this right here
Oh really?
Agency officials said on Thursday in a conference call that delayed work was not related to the breakdown in the levee system and Parker told Reuters the funding problems could not be blamed on the Bush administration alone.
Parker said a project dating to 1965 remains unfinished and that any recent projects would not have been in place by the time the hurricane struck even if they had been fully funded.
Full Story Here
No amount of money would have prevented this. That city is (was) so corrupt, how much would have actually gone to the intended purpose?
teh pwnt.

One of my classmates is doing a medical rotation in Houston. He called me last night and told me he's starting to see refugees in his clinic. I'm very proud of him.

yeah didn't you guys know when bush first took office in his oath was that he would go down to LA and fix all the mess that they didnt feel like fixing themselves. its the federal governmetns (and our federal tax money) responsibility to make sure that the people living there wouldnt get hit by a storm, and all their neglegence wouldnt bite them in the arse. bush is supposed to (like all presidents have done before him) to micromanage every single local government and make sure they do the right thing.

Did anyone else notice that since the whole lack of WMD the president's administration has been very vague about almost everything that he has had to talk about? I'm just looking for a president that can tell me what his plans are in detail and follow through with those plans to the very end. But back on subject I'm really not surprised with the army corps of engineers coming under fire. They are really the only commission setup to look at large scale building projects. About 2 or 3 years ago they gave an ok for a rock quarry owner to make a tunnel under Joliet Rd. in Countryside, IL (formally route 66.) After about 2 days the road began to collapse. It dropped about one foot before they had to close the road and detour all traffic about a 1/2 mile around the quarry. This road also has the fiber optic lines for most of the southwest suburbs running down the middle. The road is still closed; no one is taking responsibility for the collapse. Vulcan (the quarry owners/operators) blames USACE and the local town for telling them it was OK. USACE blames Vulcan for not putting enough support during the demolition. In the most recent figues I've seen, they'll have to make a bridge for just that 30-60 foot long section at a cost of several million dollars As with anything that gets screwed up its a number of little problems that make up the final big problem. So go ahead blame Bush, racism, USACE, LAs Governor, Global Warming, God, the devil, whoever. Blame is not going to pump out billions of gallons of water and its definitely not going to rebuild houses. They call these things natural disasters for a reason.

Agreed, but I hope they don't just build houses where they were before, because doesn't that just seem stupid to anyone else?
