Ok, how long would it take to:

1. Make a few phone calls to Walmart Target and a few other big box stores and ask them to donate bottled water, wipes, diapers, cheese and beef jerky. (Does the gov't still store surplus cheese and milk?)

I heard on the radio this morning that Wal-mart was going to open up something like 40 of their stores in the affected area and give away essentials like food, water, formula, diapers, and clothes to people with demonstrated need, so they are trying to do their part.

2. Have them deliver these items to a nearby AFB, in Texas maybe.

3. Load up a few C130s or a few dozen helicopters with this stuff and

4. Drop this stuff in the vicinity of the Superdome, where there is the equivalent of a small city living with no food, water, or sanitary supplies?

At this point, do you know what would happen if this were to take place? I don't think any of the supplies would survive long enough to do any good. The people down there are so desperate for all of this stuff that this would probably incite a riot and kill a whole lot more people than it helped.

If we are going to make a difference, we need people in charge of distribution of supplies that have the authority and firepower to keep people from rioting. Otherwise you are going to have mass chaos and nobody would get helped.

Good intentions, bad execution.
