The grab-handle part is held to the door by two large screws, one either side. The wooden insert just pushes into place, and is held in by some clips and pressure.

Cars with no wooden insert have the same arrangement except the wooden part is replaced by a plastic part the same colour as the grab handle.

Just thought... are you talking about the chrome handles? D'oh! laugh

They look different but have a look at the pivot where the handle mounts (you can just about see it behind the surround). I previously had the longer handles which are similar to those fitted to the contour (possibly the same). The only difference is that they extend further to the right of the pivot point, hence the different surround. They mount in the exact same way, but you do have to change the surround if you want it to look right.

Here's a pic of the old style handle I removed from my car. If it looks the same as yours then the chrome one will fit (assuming you can use the surround). The new one has almost nothing to the right of the pivot.
