IF you think about we dont have it all that bad. I have a customer that just moved over here for northern Great Britain. He was in the other day and we did the math on what they are paying right now for gas. He called his wife to see what the price was that day. We worked it out to be $8.26 us dollars per gallon. We have nothing to complain about. I still dont like paying $100 per week on gas though but I have to bend over and take it like everyone else. By the way i saw 3.59 per gallon last night in newaygo MI. That is For regular unleaded. Yet Diesel is still 2.49.

It's time for a Jetta TDI. Pronto man. Georgia just took it up the ass today. That's all there is to it. Figure the highest I saw today in Georgia per online pictures was $5.87 and my minivan has a 19.5 gal fuel tank, that's $114.47 to fill it up. Figure the average American gasses up every week and it comes out to over $457. Remember, that's a minivan. There's SUVs with twice the gasoline capacity and half the fuel efficiency of my Sedona. That's an entire month of clothing or several weeks of food, just for one fillup. Not to mention other things like an XBOX or a headunit for the car or several party days' worth of beer. Yeah, Britain and the rest of Europe pay an obscene amount of money for petrol over there, but the fact of the matter is that their economy can handle it. They don't bat an eye at $6 or $7 or $8 a gallon of gasoline. The United States as it sits would literally fall in from the center out with people driving the big SUVs and trucks that they do and the crappy economy being the way it is. Either gas prices need to come back down, or the rest of the economy needs to catch up. If neither happens, the United States is in for some maaaajor trouble within the very near future. -SAV

Time to break out my bicycle. Only thing is, it's at my dad's house ,it would be more cost effective to not drive (hour away) there and back for the bike.

That is exactly why you are starting to see all the car manufacturers making more turbo-diesel mid size cars. They have more power, suprizingly better emissions with new technology and twice if not 3 times the fuel economy, and diesel is cheaper. I recently read and article about an audi with a turbo v8 diesel that makes 326hp. 400+ ft lbs. of torque and can get 40mpg on the highway. Diesel will be taking over soon, I dont see much way around it at this point. The europeans have been using diesel for years now.

Not the economy to catch up, the infrastructure needs to change.
Guv'ment needs to hold a rifle to the oil companies heads and say start selling suplher free diesel NOW.
Then you'll see an influx of modern diesels used in Europe. Hell I would see my CSVT in a blink of an eye if I could buy a 320d or 330d.
Then start moving towards methane based engines or something like that, anyway.

"With oil prices showing no signs of slowing, oil companies are enjoying highly lucrative years. Last year, ExxonMobil reported a profit of over $25 billion, breaking all previous records. Profits were up for other oil companies as well, including Shell with $18.54 billion, ConocoPhillips with $15.7 billion, BP with $15.7 billion, and ChevronTexaco with $13.3 billion. Second quarter 2005 profit figures show that the trend continued in 2005. Profits were between a third and a half higher than during the same period last year. Exxon has already made $7.6 billion this year, BP $6.7 billion, and Shell just over $5 billion. High profits also padded oil executives' pay with an average raise of 109 percent in 2004, according to The Wall Street Journal. The average oil executive received total compensation of $17 million in 2004."
