That is exactly why you are starting to see all the car manufacturers making more turbo-diesel mid size cars. They have more power, suprizingly better emissions with new technology and twice if not 3 times the fuel economy, and diesel is cheaper. I recently read and article about an audi with a turbo v8 diesel that makes 326hp. 400+ ft lbs. of torque and can get 40mpg on the highway. Diesel will be taking over soon, I dont see much way around it at this point. The europeans have been using diesel for years now.
