Ahh yes, I forgot about that! Pretty much invalidates that rumor, at least for the Duratec.

Another Duratec-related tidbit: A few years ago I read a book called "Car". It was a great read that discussed what happened behind the scenes at Ford when they were designing the '96 (oval) Taurus. Evidently when the Ford execs heard that Cadillac had named their engine the Northstar, they loved the name and wished they had thought of it. One of them lamented that "Duratec", by comparison, sounds like the name of a pair of pliers.
