Try getting an alignment also. It is cheaper than new brakes, and is a good thing to have done.

I find moderate firm stops help the shaky brakes. "Regular" driving seems to not wear down the rust that happens when the car is parked in the rain, and not driven till later. You may find that you can keep them smooth without servicing. When they really go bad the steering wheel and dash will shudder!

I guess "panic" stop was a bad choice of words. Extreme threshold braking is better. I did this twice and the shakes are 90% gone now. I will try this once or twice more to see if that will get rid of the last of it. What a strange feeling though. I have never had this happen before. Live and learn !
