I was trying to figure out the best place to plumb my mechanical oil temp probe so I sent an email to Terry Haines about the best way of doing this. I read some posts about ppl plumbing into the oil pan and wasn't sure this was the best way. This is bad for a couple reasons.
1.) The oil pan is very thin and leaks could occur. Brad Noon messed around with the oil feed for his S/C many times. I think the leak was so slow he gave up.
2.) You will receive a "cold" reading of your oil temp in the pan.
The way to get the most accurate reading is to plumb it into a flow area. This is where Mr.
FRP relocation kit for Ford mudular motors comes into play.
This is a pic of the kit I installed.
This kit has two extra ports for pluming oil pressure, temp or another filter if you so desire.
On with the install.
I took the portion you thead onto the stock oil filter head and threaded in the nipples. Better to do it off the car for obvious clearance reasons. Don't forget to wrap the threads with teflon tape kids. We don't want any leaks. After tightening them down I threaded it onto onto the block.
Then I figured out the best place would be underneath the bumper area. This is the same way Buckshot did his I believe. The pic I had is at work. So obviously you're going to have to remove the bumper cover so you can get a drill and wrenches in this area. Sorry bumper was already off car. You'll have to get a manual from me if you can't figure it out.
After measuring 20 times and drilling once I bolted the filter housing to the chassis and routed the hoses through the fender area, over the subframe. The hoses are then secured to the front portion of the subframe. Then plumbed into the block mount. Don't mix up the out and in!

The block mount has out and in labeled. The filter housing has arrows designating flow in and out as well.
When all said and done this is how mine looks. I bent the horn bracket down a little bit for clearance. I will now be running a Motorcraft Fl-1A filter which can be found almost anywhere and will filter a lot better than stock. Of course I couldn't find anyone in the area close to my home that stocks Motorcraft so I threw on a Purolator PureOne since it's guts are the same as an FL-1A but a little pricier. Walmart stocks them but of course they were out since the filter is used on so many Ford applications.
