A race trim car is stripped. Now even if we start swiss cheesing the metal (lightning) on the car....

I wouldn't consider Demon's thread anywhere near race-ready.

I'm almost down to 2800 wet now. I'd get there with A/C removal and power door locks/windows removal, I think. Gutting the interior could lose a lot of weight, so I'd say around 2650-2700 with the dash gone, headliner/carpet removed, no rear seats, lightweight front seats, no HVAC plumbing or audio. With a lightweight radiator, redoing some plumbing, gutting the door structure, removing all glass (lexan or nothing), wiring pulled, lights removed, fender liners pulled, and lightening what mechanicals you can you might get to 2300-2400, but that's a guess based on my (limited) knowledge of gutting other platforms. It seems in general (sedans) 2/3 of the car's mass is mechanical and structure, but you need at least one seat, a rool cage, fire supression, gas, etc. that adds to that number.

I know it's a little different, but a buddy of mine was trying to get down to the minimum weight of 2200 on his race cougar and has had a ton of trouble. IIRC the closest he has gotten is 2400, and that has involved cutting large holes different parts of the car.

who did this to their cougar?

I gutted mine and got it down to 2600... i however retained 2 racing seats, dash, a/c.

I basically just unbolted anything which wasnt weled to the car lol.

No interior, headliner, pillars, door panels, no rear seats or belts. etc.

I also had TCE 12.2 wilwood lightweight brakes, cf hood, msds headers, aussie bar etc.

I am sure a cougar could be brought down to at least 2400 without any cutting. (would require removing the dash and eliminating ALL sound deadning from the car...ie scraping it from the metal floors of the car)

Contours...hmm i am curious.

I wish I could remember the magazine that did it, but they got a stock 4 cylinder running, what, 11's? Amazing...Talk about stripping the car down!!

Anybody know what I'm talking about? I think it was a Nissan...

Not race ready but a step in the right direction.
