Every car under $100K is test-drivable, they may need to run your credit first or you must show the ability to buy the car by bringing a bank statement or a few months of payroll stubs but if your serious and the dealer thinks they have a sale you can test drive. And I've test driven a lot of cars in my day using the above method
F*cktard.. Try test driving a 94 Mustang GT in December 1993. Wasn't going to happen. Try test driving a Boxster in 1998, when there was a 6-9 month waiting list? (I ended up test driving a used one someone was privately selling before ordering mine)
Hell, I didn't even put my name down on the Elise when it was first announced because I wasn't sure I'd be able to fit in there comfortably. Went to the NY Auto Show a few years back to see it, and realized it wasn't going to work.
