So after some jacking up and inspecting I find that my oil pan is rusted through! It's leaking through randomly, and after scraping around a little it's alot worse, so I need a new oil pan.

I have a haynes and a ford cd manual, so I'm pretty well set, but Looking under the car there are these metal tubes that run kind of between the subframe and the far end of the oil pan (passenger side).
What are these? They look like they're in the way of a few bolts, but the manual says nothing about them that I've found.

The subframe already is in the way, what do I do with the tubes?

Been there before. When I was sand-blasting the oil pan on my T/A I found a small dent in the bottom corner of the pan. turns out it had a rust hole about the thickness of a pin going through it...Had to buy a new pan...

Well I got it done! Yay!! I have that nice feeling of accomplishment. It was kinda a pain, but not too bad. Some of the exhaust bolts were rusty etc...

Kinda wierd though, cuz when I bought the parts I told them I wanted a new oil pan and gasket, and they got 'em for me. And then when I go to put the new pan on I find that it's not supposed to have a gasket. The stupid ford guy sold me one, when it doesn't even take one?!?

It all seems to be in good shape though, so I'm happy.

Good for you! Er...Any chance of getting you to do a quick write up for the benefit of those who need to do the Zetec oil pan removal in the future? What to do? What not to do? What to look out for? Etc., etc. Thanks.

Yeah I could do that. Unfortunately I didn't think to take pictures as I did it, but I could still describe it. And for what it's worth, I think the pre-98's are fairly different, so it probably wouldn't be much good for someone with a pre-98.
I'll see what I can do.
