Ok...My car has been running Mobil 1 oil since day one (oil changing records prove it) and it still runs great. But, I have been looking at using Amsoil because it can go longer, is thiner in cold weather (we do see -60 were I live), and it is slightly cheaper than Mobil 1. Should I give the Amsoil a shot or should I just stick with the Mobil 1? Thanks!

I have always used mobil 1 and so have you. We both have had no problums. Both amsoil and mobil 1 are great motor oils. If the amsoil is cheaper then I say, give it a shot! Amsoil claims you can go 24,000 miles or 1 year before and oil change. I would never do that!!! However, amsoil is supposibly better for cold cold winters than mobil 1. Were i live, and at my work (murray's automotive) amsoil is over a dollar more a quart! The last 2 oil changes i have done I have been using Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer and I am in love with the product!! You should give it a try. If you can find it! It takes place of a quart of oil.

Yeah, I can get a 5 quart thing of amsoil for $20.25 or so and mobil one is like $23. We live only 60 miles from were amsoil is made so that might be the reason why.

it says right on the bottle. I dont know off hand but the duratec calls for just about 6.5 (i used to use 6, thanks again CEG) quarts of oil. So, I put in about just under 5 and a half and the just about a quart of the lucas oil. THE STUFF IS AMAZING! You can truly feel the differece. Plus, it basically eliminates dry starts, makes your oil last longer, lubricates much much better. And, I get 20% off the stuff through my work. Along, with anything else i want!

You are not going to see a big difference between Mobil 1 Extended Life and Amsoil. I use Amsoil in my car and it is great. On my last fill of oil I went about 11,000miles with no ill effects. The oil still looked good when I changed it.
It is very high quality so if you can get some go for it.

I have heard that Amsoil is better. And if you can get it cheaper go for it. I actually use Royal Purple. My opinion on the oil change intervals is that the oil still get's dirty. No it doesn't break down like petroleum based oils but it does still get dirty. I use a high quality oil filter (Mobile 1 or K&N) and change it around 2500 miles, add a quart and go for another 2500. I usually only go 5000 miles between oil changes. I know it's overkill but I just can't mentally go 10000 miles between oil changes.

It's not like scientific proof says otherwise.
And God-bless anyone taking car advice from Daves95Contour. A search of this forum on Mobil 1 or Amsoil will unearth a wealth of information from knowledgable CEGrs on these oils. A search for drain intervals will also show several CEGrs going 7500+ miles before changing.

In retrospect, it was all downhill from here. RIP, CEG.
