I'll second this opinion.

The ignition switch has several feeds through it that support different functions. It is likely that one section has intermittently failed as described.

FWIW, I bought a 90 Tempo for my wife back about 10 years ago. She hated it so I ended up driving it for the last 120K miles of its life. My (then) teenage daughter named it the "Goobermobile"....

Haha, the Goobermobile. My friend's wife drives a 91(I think) Tempo, they like it so far, of course they just got it about 2 weeks ago. It's black with the factory ground effects on it.

That is crazy about your problem I never heard anything like that happen before. Good luck.

Thanks for everybodys help and concerns, thanks to all your good idea's I got it fixed!

It was SORTA a fusable link, but it actually broke before the fusable part, LOL. One of the leads actually broke right before the link, broke the plastic jacket and the copper wire was corroded, almost looked like a copper penny with all that green corrosion. It ate the wire clean through. We put a new wire down, sans fuse, and all works again! We'll fut in a new fusable connection some time later down the road

Thanks for all the help and ideas!!!

BTW, i did check out the tempo topaz site, been a memeber there for years

EDIT: I forgot to add the wire was in the engine bay on the driver side near the firewall.

LOL, sorta, she still drives a Tempo :P

Actually, I bought the Contour for her, and I drive the Tempo around, but she prefers the tempo because she is short, and she says it is easier to drive because the seat moves up further :P
