I haven't had a problem with coaxial inputs via my TV tuner on my desktop with either 17" LCD (both running 1280x1024; one DVI, one VGA), personally. A TV tuner should suffice, IMO. Sometimes the tuner will force NTSC resolution when fullscreened - not sure how good that'd be with a laptop video driver, but I haven't had a problem when I did that with my old eMachines and old TV tuner (15" CRT).
