Good question. It's confusing because people always say the APP764 is the same as stock, but like you, my stockers were the fine wire plugs...not the same.

Did they switch at some point? My car has a date of 2/98...

The APP764 is identical to the plugs used in the 95. Ford started to use the fine wire plug on the Contour V6 in 96.

Thanks, Jim.

I switched to the PPs at around 60k. I'm just over 70k now. Would you recommend switching back to the FMs right away, or am I OK to wait till the next "need" for service? Do the PPs put additional stress on my ignition system?

No need to switch. The APP764 is an excellent plug. That is what I have had in mine since the first change at 60,000 miles. Now that Autolite has a fine wire plug with a platinum side wire, I might try it next time, if the prices come down.

No, you are not overloading your ignition system. It was designed for the double plat plug. The ignition system did not change when they started to use the fine wire plug in 96.

This is all interesting to me, but I am not sure what I will be wanting to do when I change (or have someone else do it for me) the plugs in my '95 Mystique 2.5L. So, in plain english what plug should I use?? The Autolite APP764's or Bosch Plats or ????? I'm not dumb, it's just that anything after '86 is morte complicated and less user friendly. I was brought up on much simpler autos.

Later. Pepse.

Autolite APP764 is identical to what the factory installed in 95 except for the name stamped on the side of the plug. Autolite is the vendor that supp;ies most of the plugs for Ford's Motorcraft. This is my first choice.

If you want to try a fine wire then the Autolite XP104 looks like the correct part number. It looks like it is nearly the same as the factory plug for 96 and newer. The difference is that it has a platinum side wire which is an improvement. This plug should work fine, but I'm not yet convinced that it is an improvement.

Our engines don't seem to like Bosch plugs, either their plain platinum or their multi-tip +4.

Actually, I think the factory plugs where only single platinums. Plat on one side for one bank, and plat on the other side for the other bank. They would have had a -E or -G on the plug number indicating where the platinum was placed. They are cheaper to make that way.

You are correct. It would have been more accurate for me to have said that the APP764 is identical to the factory specified REPLACEMENT spark plug for 95.

Gooood explaination on coil/ voltages etc! Big Jim
Now what is the real part number please for the new fine-wire? Anyone?

Amazing the Motocraft web site shows a confusing amount of plugs. I remember Steve told me the 6W1 was the six-pack for the W1 whatever that is? Maybe the original fine-wire?

They still list AGSF32FM(6), AWSF32F(6) Six-packs =(6)I hope?
32FM and a 632FM I'm guessing that the later is the new fine wire???

Oh and one other line shows this:AGSF32FMF6[Spark Plug]---
632FM; .054 Gap; Platinum; GS, L

Now at Autozone they list Motocraft 432 and 632FM both are $4.59 ea? Would that be the new fine-wire? If this is they would be affordable? Autozone does not list the Autolite XP 104, however Advanced does for Ouch $6.48.

Ahhhhhh, partly to mostly confused!
Tnx
Paul
