Agreed on all points. One of my cousins flipped her Range Rover twice when someone pulled out in front of her, and thanks to the seat belt she escaped without anything worse than a bruise. (FWIW - she replaced it with a car, no more SUVs.)

That's a bad thing to see. You did what you could.

I don't understand why people don't wear seatbelts. I lost one of my best friends in a car accident becuase she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. The driver who was drunk, walked away (he was wearing a seatbelt). Although he is now serving 11 years.

No one rides in my car without one.

first, dang that sucks.

next, it is her own fault for not wearing a seat belt, it's a personal choice (no matter what some legislator says) and she chose to die, end of story.

third, the legal system in that state would have to be extremely to the left to prosecute the driver of the talon for causing the lady's death; [censored] happens that's why it's called an "accident."

Fourth, tires on a normal passenger vehicle come with a Standard speed rating and a standard speed rating is an "S" rated tire and this rating if for sustained speeds at 112 mph or less. The lowest speed rating is "M" and comes in at 81 mph, which is incidentally LESS than "N" rating (87 mph) given to MOST spare tires. Last I checked dealerships and car lots do not make a point of equipping a car with four spare tires and making the purchaser get real tires. Who ever told you this was either pulling your leg, or misinformed. The driver of the talon doing 80 mph can not be blamed for not forseeing a blow-out unless he had been going conciderably faster.

Fifth, Who in the hell can not control a car if a rear tire blows at 80 mph??? The only thing the talon driver is truely guilty of is being an incompetant [censored] head that had no buisness behind the wheel of a car. I've been behind the wheel in a similar situation, as long as you gently break and don't try to swerve suddenly a car reacts fine..... that driver needs a for being an incompetant driver, but that's about it.

Sixth, why is it that people seem to think 80 mph is too fast for highway driving?? Europe has allowed for speeds over 100 for years and years with more traffic and fewer problems. Despite what the tv commercials and soccer moms want you to believe speed is not the problem. Inexperienced, unknowledgable drivers, those that do not pay attention, those that drive in the wrong lane, etc... are the cause of traffic problems. The person trying to go 100 in the PASSING lane to get from point A to point B are not the one doing wrong. If you are not capable of driving fast, do not criticize those of us that are; do your job behind the wheel, remember you are in a car NOT a concert studio, bathroom, at the kitchen table, in a phone booth, etc... stay in the right lane unless you are passing, look properly in your mirrors before entering the passing lane, merge back into the driving lane after passing, if someone approaches you from behind while in the passing lane do not slow down, give the finger, play games, etc... yeild the the right-of-way as legally required at be on your way. When the rules of courtesous safe driving are ignored "road rage" ensues and the majority of traffic problems occur.

Whan I was 17 my seatbelt saved my life when my dumbass friend decided to try and jump a hill at 90+ mph. The rear passenger tire blew on "re-entry" and sent us careening into a cornfield where whitnesses say we tumbled end over end at least 6 times. I remember looking at the car after it had been moved to the impound lot and sobing like a little girl because I couldn't believe I had actually survived.

My frind was not wareing a seat belt and was launched from the car. He was in a coma for almost a week. The doctors were sceptical and diddn't think he was going to make it at first. I escaped with a bruised lung and a cuncussion.

she's completely at fault? cause someone else was driving like an asshat and his tire messed up? she didn't even see it coming, yea she should've buckled up, but wow, it's HER fault now?

Hold on. I don't think he was going "so fast".

If you were merging at 65 mph and you said (I quote): "and I see a motorcycle, so I say, 'gee, let's watch out for him' ". Was the motorcycle speeding too?

I had already been merged, I was just noting that I was aware of my surroundings. 80 mph = 25 mph over the speed limit. TOO fast.

I don't get you CEG, someone posts about going 65 in a 55 and getting a ticket for it, and they're criminals cause they were speeding, and they could've caused an accident and blah blah blah. yet someone's going 80 in a 55 and is responsible for someone's death, and he's not sucha bad guy? gimme a break here.

the rest of traffic was going 60-65 along with me, and he was just flying by everyone. I don't even have the energy to respond to a lot of these points, but I just want to say I disagree and think this guy should be responsible. I remember hearing so many times here that if you're speeding, you should be willing to deal with the consequences (usually referring to tickets), but now you've all had a change of heart, and it baffles me

Getting a ticket is absolutely no comparison to what happened to this young guy and girl. Nobody on here had a 'change of heart'. It's called common sense.

We are continually caught bitching people out on here about tickets not because they got tickets, but because they don't have the balls to fess up to the fact that they were doing wrong. A majority of the time, a ticket post is from somebody trying to find a way out of it or calling the cop that pulled him over a bunch of derogatory names when the cop was merely doing his job.

This situation is entirely different. That guy's tire would have blown whether he was doing 55, 85, or 205. He didn't know it was going to happen, so trying to brandish him with vehicular manslaughter because it's just gotta be SOMEBODY'S fault is flat stupid.

You saw how many people have made the same points that I did. Chick got messed up because it was her fault for not putting on the seatbelt that she should've been wearing whether she knew an accident was going to happen to her that day or not. Not him.

I don't think the accident is anyone's fault. It was just that an ACCIDENT. Tires blow out. People lose control. [censored] happens everyday.

You never know what's going to happen. That is why you ALWAYS wear your seatbelt.

The accident was not his or hers fault. She did not buckle up so, the severeity of her injuries is her fault.

Wow, that's sad. It's easy to forget how quickly life can be turned upsidedown. Good job on stopping and calling 911 and everything.
