Yup, I was driving down the highway at my usual speed (75ish) the other day when I started getting a bit of vibration from the front end. No worries, I thought... just a balance issue. So then I'm going down a few backroads and a hear a "du du du du du" sound very faintly from the front end. Then there was a metallic grind/pop sound when I pulled into my driveway.
Sure enough, i pull off the tire and the transmission casing has a nice ring of axle grease sprayed all around the inner CV joint. The thing that sucks is that my father dismantled his garage this past week (they're moving), so I no longer have the tools/space to do the job... as a result, it's going into the shop Monday morning of next week. I just hope my axle doesn't blow up in the meantime!
Anyone else had an inner CV joint go this early in life (100k miles)?
