Yup, I was driving down the highway at my usual speed (75ish) the other day when I started getting a bit of vibration from the front end. No worries, I thought... just a balance issue. So then I'm going down a few backroads and a hear a "du du du du du" sound very faintly from the front end. Then there was a metallic grind/pop sound when I pulled into my driveway.

Sure enough, i pull off the tire and the transmission casing has a nice ring of axle grease sprayed all around the inner CV joint. The thing that sucks is that my father dismantled his garage this past week (they're moving), so I no longer have the tools/space to do the job... as a result, it's going into the shop Monday morning of next week. I just hope my axle doesn't blow up in the meantime!

Anyone else had an inner CV joint go this early in life (100k miles)?

No inner cv joints...but 2 outside ones on mine!

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

Mine went in under 50k miles on the drivers side.

Well, the boot ripped but the shaft was fine, I replaced the whole thing anyway cause it was only $60 after a core charge.

I got a reman cv joint at autozone for $50 or $60 after core charge. Autozone sells a brand called GCK. They make new axles not remanufactured ones. DO NOT BUY THE GCK BRAND. they dont fit right. If your mechanic is going to get the part for you, at least make sure it has a lifetime warranty. Many places offer lifetime warranties on their cv joints.
