Or will the straight piece off the 45 not connect to the plenum correctly? I've never been 100% sure of exactly what was needed for your setup with the plenum left on.

If you keep the stock plenum, you can go with 3" pipe and 3" silicone couplers.
So it would be;
Plenum -> 3" Coupler -> Length of 3" pipe -> 3" 45 degree coupler -> MAF -> Airbox -> Length of 3" pipe -> Fenderwell
