Word. I would have suggested something like 30-32 hertz for a little bit better response at the penalty of little loss in SPL. But it would still get damn loud and would sound a lot better. Just my two cents here....

I was just going with what Kicker suggested since it was my first ported box. I know if you are off with calculations more than a little bit, the woofer can get damaged

Honestly, the extra couple of hertz on the low end will be as noticeable as the change in output, which will be slight at best. I'd just leave it where it is for now, and if you ever wanted to play, you can extend the port outside of the box.

really it would only change the tuning frequency and sound of the sub... but hey, kicker does a decent job. They don't know how to suggest a box for the Solo X though, they recommend (IIRC), 12.0 ported for SPL, and every one that I have seen has been bigger than that......

MFG recommendations will always be on the low end of where optimal enclosures will be. It provides mechanical protection of drivers.

true, but wouldn't you think that on a pure SPL sub that has no real warranty that you would want them to have the optimal box off the bat? I would..... just me though....
